Smokers these days are in exile. If you walk down any city laneway, you’ll find them, generally alone, in the doorways of fire exits and around collections of dumpsters.
It’s an interesting subject to photograph. Being alone, smokers are often left to their own, deep thought. I’m fascinated by their moments of solitude, but a longer lens is required so as not to be so voyeuristic.
