January 15th – The sun sets, gradually

Last glimpse

1/320th, f6.3, ISO 100

After the Friday evening mid-processing teaser, it’s hard not to publish this photo.

One thing we grew up hearing about photo’s, is to have the sun behind you. If we did that today, we’d miss these beautiful sunsets.

This photo was taken on December 31st, and while many of us were putting our NYE plans into practice, we on the farm were simply taking a sigh of relief after another North Coast belter.

The trick in processing here was the usual basic settings – lower the highlights, fiddle with the White and Black clipping, but also the introduction of a Graduated Filter in Lightroom. It’s a magical tool that I’ve barely begun using.
