This looks as good a spot as any?
It’s cicada season, and I guess the only reprieve from a balmy 30*C+ night is that it’s near perfect weather for these raucous insects to emerge from their resting places deep under terra firma.
My macro tip: The hardest part of getting a good macro shot is light. In this case I’m using an old Canon Speedlite 550EX, with a Gary Fong Lightsphere mounted on top. The Gary Fong Lightsphere (GFLS) is a flash diffuser with a dome that creates an even spread of light, and retails for around $100.
Much cheaper than some of the specialist macro flash equipment out there.
