January 10th – Sunflower

Sunflower (Helianthus)

A couple of sunflowers soaking up the summer sun.

It took all two-and-a-half weeks in the country for a row of a dozen or so sunflowers to open. And once standing to attention, it’s very hard to ignore them.

The Sunflower, or Helianthus, derives it’s name from the Greek – ‘helios’ meaning Sun, and ‘anthos’, meaning flower. Nothing complicated there.
