June 15th – Sit and Stare

Sit and Stare

In an effort to make good on this ‘Street Photography’ thing, I’ve been spending more time behind the Canon 50mm lens. Not only to improve at this focal length, it’s also a damn site lighter and easier to carry!

This lady is being comforted by her cigarette, seemingly oblivious to the hustle and bustle CBD and retail lifestyle.

I took this photo during a morning stroll through Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall. For those unfamiliar with the mall, there are a couple of clusters of single-seats, where smokers tend to hang out.

I’ve often pondered sticking to a “Smokers” theme, taking photo’s of the population of the various pockets of smoking venues around the city. These locations are in dwindling supply.

In this photo I’ve also used Lightroom’s Radial tool for the first time. This allowed me to create an oval around the main subject and apply certain effects to the surrounding areas, preserving the main subject.
