Taking kids to a Chinese restaurant is part food expedition, part theatre.
There’s the tanks full of seemingly oblivious fish and crustaceans. There are dishes that come bathed in fire, and the dessert? Not just ice cream – it’s deep fried!
But you ask any child what they remember most, and it’s the novelty of the Fortune Cookie. There were the generic “In order to take, one must first give” messages, but mine had my stumped.
Was I experiencing good luck, and this small, baked treat has changed that? Or vice-versa, was I having an adverse day and things were on the improve?
Either way, I went and paid the bill and in doing so overlooked the discount voucher, which itself was a reason for choosing this venue tonight.
I see what you did there, Fortune Cookie.
