For several months now the El Nino Southern Oscillation Index (ENSO), coupled with warmer sea temperatures in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, has indicated the distinct likelihood of an el nino weather pattern settling over Australia during the winter and spring months.

El Niño is often associated with below-average winter and spring rainfall over eastern Australia and above-average daytime temperatures over the southern half of Australia.

It makes the storing of hay that much more important.
