New photography equipment doesn’t have to cost a lot of money.
After chatting to one of the retail stores about macro flashes, the young man was keen to show me Canon’s lens-mounted flash system, despite advising I wasn’t in the market.
He then excitedly showed me some home-made alternatives, such as this old milk container mounted on a flash, or perhaps another use for your wife’s favorite cake-tin (caution – destructive!)? Personally I think the styrofoam bowl diffuser is the winner.
My effort for the day – a plastic cup lined with 2 layers of baking paper. Total difference to using the on-board normally? About zero.
With the on-board flashes generally too ‘direct’, anything used to disperse the light-blast is beneficial, particularly the case with macro.
