The Wanderer is a slightly-larger-than-lifelike statue, standing with his back to the crowds looking wistfully out at the Pacific Ocean.
The Wanderer is one of the less assuming items on display at the popular Sydney chapter of Scultpures by the Sea.
The public display of art features over 100 pieces spread along the popular walkway between Tamarama and Bondi beaches in Sydney’s east.
I was drawn to The Wanderer (Sean Henry, 2013) as he looked wistfully out to see. So much expression without a word said. The eerie yellow light following a big thunderstorm set the perfect tone.
Since it’s commencement in 1996, Sculptures by the Sea has expanded to include Cottesloe Beach in Perth (March) in 2005, and more recently Aarhus in Denmark in June/July.
