This photo was very opportunistic for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it was 3:30pm. Secondly, we don’t have ringtails in our area.
Until now it seems.
I have brushed shoulders, almost literally, with one of these ringtails and their young along the back fence one evening. I’m not sure who got the bigger fright.
This would appear to be a full grown adult, which means there is likely to be another 2 generations of this family running around. The presence of this possum suggests a colony has moved into the neighbourhood, but the Ringtail is not considered a pest because it lives among the trees.
Considering it was only September 24th when I snagged this Brushtail and its young, it makes me wonder if there’s a general wildlife population shift occurring around us.
Likelihood is they are here to take advantage of our mulberry tree.
