A cloudless night on a balmy Wednesday evening. In an otherwise featureless display in the skies, the new’ish moon gave a little wink as the day draws to a close.
I’m not much of a stargazer, nor astronomer (or astrologer for that matter), and I’d struggle to identify many constellations with the naked eye. Enter the SkySafari iPhone app, a terrific tool to help you identify constellations with an Augmented Reality style interface.
I recently used SkySafari when taking some astro photos in the country. I was about to embark on a series of photo’s aiming at the South Pole, unfortunately the cloud cover beat me to it.
At this point I should shout-out a work colleague John Mills, whose entire photographic addiction is spent staring at the stars. Some amazing work right here, with some serious astro-tech, and patience in spades. Here is John’s photo stream.
