If you’re ever taken a shortcut through some of the CBD’s lanes and alleyways, the chances are you’ve come across interestingly placed artworks and sculptures.
In 2007 some of Sydney’s lane ways started turning into public art spaces as part of the Art & About Festival, this year occurring between mid-September and running into October.
The bronze sculpture above is one of two youngsters frolicking in Barrack St, between George and York Sts. Called “Youngsters”, she is a creation of Caroline Rothwell. The kids are largely incognito wearing baggy clothing and hoodies, and closer inspection reveals that they are in fact 2 young girls.
Since 2007 a selection of Sydney’s laneways have been given a facelift with various artworks including Bridge Lane, Tank Stream Way, Sussex Lane and more.
