The wind wasn’t quite up but Canada Bay in front of me was choppy. This is looking across to the old Bushell’s Factory in Concord.
The name Bushell’s is synonymous with tea. Alfred Bushell was a tea dealer in Australia, who married Agnes, the sister of the founder of a tea company in England.
The Bushell’s empire grew, expanding into coffee, flour, fish and other food products, operating from their head office in The Rocks. In 1956 the Bushell’s moved their head office and factory to the Exile Bay location in Concord.
According to some, the city was expanding that way and they wanted to get in early.
Those who have played golf in neighbouring Massey Park Golf Course will tell you there’s still a feint (unpleasant) smell of instant coffee emanating from behind the 2nd green.
