June 25th – Benches

Most of us can recall eating lunch (little and big) on benches like these in the schoolyard. It’s fair to say they have stood the test of time.

I recall these seats in my school. In fact I recall them being installed in favour of splinter-ridden coloured wooden benches, which places these technological breakthroughs at around 30 years old.

It’s good to see these benches still employed today. It’s a rite of passage that school kids endure meal times on these seats, like an induction into some sort of club.

In summer the seats would heat up so much that the little ridges would be branded into our nether regions, and in winter you could leave some skin on them if you weren’t careful.
