Anyone who has been to Fiji can tell you just how musical and harmonious the Fijian culture is. Just about everyone we met played an instrument, and/or sung along in perfect pitch.
Anyone who has visited Fiji will no doubt remember “Isa Lei”, a song sung to departing friends.
There isn’t a word in the song you will understand, but it doesn’t take a genius to work out the sombre singing and slow tempo means it’s something from the heart. It ends with the singers break formation to sit in their own space, and together they clap 3 times.
One thing you can be assured of in Fiji – whenever you arrive (anywhere), there will be a song playing, and as you board your transport to depart, the guitars will be strumming.
