When you go to a children’s indoor playground called “Funland”, you can expect to see all sorts of apparatus for making children happy, busy, exhausted, injured, or all of the above.
What we didn’t expect to see in the “Wizard of Oz Funland” is wall to wall Wizard of Oz memorabilia.
You can’t imagine it. A stage for renditions of, you guessed it, the Wizard of Oz. A mini golf course through various Wizard of Oz scenes … you get the drift, and I’m getting tired of typing “Wizard of Oz”.
But by far the most extraordinary, though somewhat enchanting, is the hand-painted Matryoshka dolls depicting the slipper of the Wicked Witch of the West, the Emerald City, the Wicked Witch herself, the Lion, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and of course Dorothy, clutching her best friend Toto close.
I’m not sure any of the kids in attendance would know The Wizard of Oz, but their efforts weren’t lost on the oldies.
