This brave young man was the chosen one. When I asked my 6 year old daughter to “choose a friend” for her big adventure to day surgery, she plucked out this cuddly guy.
The procedure de jour was a relatively simple one – adenoids and grommets.
I was surprised at first, she hadn’t really attached to this teddy bear for as long as she had owned him. But on the eve of her big day, B.B. (as he became known) was called up to the plate.
Upon arrival at Macquarie Uni Hospital, the admin staff spotted B.B. and gave him a mask, and asked my daughter for his name. We went with Brave Bear (over Teddy Bear, but only just).
And B.B. did an amazing job. Despite the pre-dawn start and lack of breakfast, the day went without a hitch. Before morning tea we were back in the ward and singing along to Disney’s Frozen.
