February 15 – Angry Birds

Angry Birds
The Rainbow Lorikeet would be familiar to most if not all of us, especially here on the east coast of Australia.

Impressively pretty birds, but there’s one thing I can’t go past – their blood-red eyes. It makes me think that beneath that cute exterior, there are sinister motives. Not quite Chucky from Childs Play, but you get the impression that the moment you stop concentrating they’ll sink their beak into a finger.

Strangely enough Rainbow Lorikeets are considered a pest in Western Australia, posing a threat to local bird life and fruit crops. They aren’t native to the area, however it’s believed they were ‘accidentally’ released from a university some time in the 1960’s.
